This painting explores the cycle of change and the growth through it. A pewter vase of sunflowers is knocked over in the foreground, symbolising the collapse of older beliefs or ideas. In the background, a crow stands on a stack of books, symbolising deep, heavy inner calculation and grief. Hyacinths lay on the table, another symbol of mourning. Eventually overcoming a difficult period or change, the crow looks out a large open window, suggesting a hopeful future. It is an observation of working through something and waiting for the outcome to arrive with optimism.

This artwork is painted on linen, in the finest grade lightfast oil pigments and sealed using Winsor & Newton Retouching Varnish as well as Gamvar Satin Varnish for maximum lightfast colour protection.
